Welcome to 1A-CentOSServer.com

There are thousands of reasons you migrate your operating system to open source operating system. But there are always painful experiences (or I should call it rather 'challenging process') to 'google' around and get the your server setup. My intention of setup this website is to compile most of information on CentOS Linux so that you can easily find most of the server service such FTP, Apache (Web), Samba, Mail installation guide over here.

Always be remember there are NO best OS /distro for you. The best distro is the distro you find comfortable and familiar with. Also, you may need to take consideration of distro's /application's road map, long term support and number of  acceptance by communities. Ubuntu and CentOS Linux  are two of the fastest growing distributions for past 2 years.

For your information, I been working with different distros for past few years. My preferred OS is still CentOS Linux. There are 2 simple reasons. First, it has most ready-made packages that ease my job. Secondly, I work with NPOs and NGOs that has limited IT funding and need huge pool of community support (aka forum).

So, What is CentOS Linux (http://www.centos.org)?

  • CentOS is acronym for "Community Enterprise Operating System.
  • CentOS is one of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) clones, other famous clones are Scientific Linux, White Box Enterprise Linux (WBEL) and TAO Linux.
  • CentOS is FREE in both cost and distribution.
  • CentOS system architectual, function and  features is very close to RHEL. Therefore, any there are can interoperate/migrate within two system without much configuration.
  • CentOS is one of the fastest-growth distribution. You can get your support from community forum. If you plan to have 24x7 support, I would suggest you look for RHEL.

I am currently compiling most of my work and experience for past years on CentOS Linux and Linux commands. As you know documentation is damn boring  (I discipline  myself for writing at least a page per day)  for system administrator, nevertheless,  I hope this site will ease you some of your daily system administration and server setup task.
